Sept 21, 2013 Announcement

Sunday Worship

In our gospel lesson for Sunday, we have the story of a rich man commending a dishonest steward.   It’s a very unusual (and difficult) parable to understand in our modern world, and one that has led to many different interpretations of what Jesus meant when he told his disciples to “make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon…” Why does Jesus give such advice?   What is going on in the lives of those who first heard the parable?  Why are so many people indebted to this “rich man”?  Why is the steward/manager commended!? Please join us for worship on Sunday, September 22nd at 10:30 a.m. and for refreshments and fellowship after the service.  The scripture reading from the G0spel is Luke 16: 1-13.  The call to worship is Psalm 113, while the Old Testament lessons are Amos 8:4-7 and Jeremiah 8: 18 – 9:1. The title of Rev. Fairfax’s sermon is “The Justice of Injustice”.

Prayer Group

There will be a prayer meeting after coffee hour on this coming Sunday, September 22nd in the Green Room. Jesus said, ‘When two or three are gathered in my name, I am there.” Bring your prayers about whatever joys or concerns you may have on your mind and in your heart. All are welcome.

World Communion Sunday
